2008/6/15 In Memoriam: Al Burgin

The Band is mourning the passing of Al Burgin of Novato, California, who was one of the keystones in the building of the Prince Charles Pipe Band organization in the 1970s and had remained an active supporter since.

The Burgin Family is one of the original Band families. They along with a few other families went way out of their way to support the Band in its early years. Al and Doreen’s two children, Matt Burgin and Erin Berta, were active in many aspects of the Band. Matt was a piper in what we refer to as our “second-generation” band, the same band that traveled to Scotland for the first time in 1973. At the time Erin was a highland dancer but more recently she played pipes in our Grade Three band. Erin ’s son Colin was recently the Pipe Major of our Grade One band.

Al was always quick with a smile and a laugh, and was quite proud of his family and the Band. We’ll miss him, and our sympathies go out to the Burgin and Berta families.
